SPA EURO RACE / 21-22-23 June 2019

The unmissable patchwork to kick-off the summer

For the Royal Automobile Club de Spa the countdown has finally started for the traditional summer kick-off with the Spa Euro Race, held on Friday 21st , Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd June on the Spa-Francorchamps circuit. And true to tradition dating back to … 1990, in other words near on 30 years of organisation, a highly varied menu awaits the enthusiasts throughout the three days.

“The Spa Euro Race is a concept that has proven its merits over the many years, Pierre Delettre, the organiser explained. Within the R.A.C. Spa, everything has been implemented to allow all types of drivers, whether pros, semi-pros, young lions or amateurs, to take full advantage of this mouth-watering circuit. And it’s not without a certain pride we can recall that in the history of the Spa Euro Race, we had the pleasure of seeing on the grid and on the podium such champions as Pedro Lamy, Jos Verstappen, Rubens Barrichello, Pierre Gasly, Charles Leclerc, Esteban Ocon, Lando Norris, Nyck de Vries, Alexander Albon and many others! This says a lot about the prestige of our meeting, even though it goes without saying that today we need to work hard to be able to organise race programmes bringing together a wider scope …”

Once again, this year the tradition of spawning young talents will be on the books, with three rounds of the French F4 Championship and two joint races for the Belgian and Dutch competitors of the Ford Fiesta Sprint Cup. Who knows, we could well be talking about these young winners in a few years on the international scene.

Spa Euro Race is also a regular focal point of spectacular competitions, mixing Prototypes, GT machines and Touring cars. The Supercar Challenge and the GT & Prototype Challenge organised by the V-Max team of Dick van Elk is one of the best examples. As for the prestigious one-make cup, the Lotus Cup Europe, it brings together the out and out fans of the make created by a certain Colin Chapman, and it takes a great delight on calling on the Belgian Ardennes, where race conditions are as always unpredictable … This also goes for the Radical Challenge Championship, allowing keen Prototype competitors to have their fill of sensations whist preparing to move up to higher categories in the endurance world.

“The R.A.C. Spa also makes it a point of honour to produce a slot for the amateur competitions, Pierre Delettre continued. This will be the case again this year, with the Autosport Competitie Noord Nederland, or ACNN, with a well-filled grid made up of happy competitors throughout the weekend. To be able to share the billboard with top rated competitions remains a privilege which we are delighted to be able to offer to those asking for it.”

In a nutshell, it is a patchwork of diverse series, alternating between sprint and endurance races, that the Spa Euro Race is inviting the fans to on 21st, 22nd and 23rd June. A tasty summer cocktail, an automotive aperitif a mere few days before the holiday season …
